Child Counselling Sessions

At Little Lighthouse Therapy, we understand that navigating emotions can be challenging for children. That is why we employ an integrative approach to counselling, creating a warm and supportive environment where children can freely explore and express their feelings. We are committed to helping them feel safe and understood on their journey toward emotional well-being.

Sessions last 50 minutes and are held once a week, on the same day and time each week. This consistency is an important part of building a trusting therapeutic relationship and helps children feel emotionally safe.

Sessions can be held either in my private therapy room at The Clinic at Borde Hill or, where appropriate and with permission, within your child’s school.

When I’m working with children and young people, I offer regular parent/carer review sessions so that we can stay connected and work together in support of your child’s emotional development.

Therapy for Neurodivergent children

Specialist Support For Neurodivergent Children

I have a particular interest in supporting neurodivergent children. My approach is respectful, strengths-based, and affirming — creating space for each child to understand who they are and feel good about it.

Together, we might explore:

  • Identity and self-understanding
  • Neurodivergence and our nervous system responses
  • Sensory and emotional needs
  • Coping in school or social situations
  • Confidence, belonging and communication

I aim to help neurodivergent children thrive in a world that isn’t always designed with them in mind.

Art Therapy

What Happens During A Therapy Session

During a therapy session, your child or teenager will have access to a wide range of creative and therapeutic materials — including art and craft supplies, small world figures, puppets, drums and storybooks.

These resources are carefully chosen to support emotional expression in a way that feels safe, natural and pressure-free. Many children — and even teenagers can struggle to find the words to explain how they feel. Creative tools can gently open up space to explore difficult emotions, internal conflicts, or past experiences without relying solely on conversation.

This approach is not only helpful for younger children — older teens often find that using art, symbols, or creative media allows them to express things that feel too complex or uncomfortable to put into words.

I work at your child’s pace, offering gentle support as they begin to explore their inner world in whatever way feels right for them — whether that’s through play, creativity, movement, or quiet reflection.

How Long Does Therapy Take?

Every child is different, and the length of therapy depends on their individual needs. I offer both short- and long-term therapeutic support.

Some children may benefit from a brief intervention of 10 sessions, especially when addressing specific issues or recent life events. Others may need longer-term support, particularly if difficulties have been present for a while or are more complex.
